Andrew, love your reviews! But still undecided on what soundbar to purchase. I have a large room 20’x30′ and with a ceiling height at peak is 14′. Also, the room has lots of windows with 4 sliding glass doors. Any suggestions? FYI, we also love music.
Man i hate to say it but the ultra sonos is awsome!
We went ahead and got this system for our attic, and use the surrounds as front speakers. Haven’t set up the system for “front” yet because the app won’t connect, but it still adds depth and gives quite the punch. An unexpected result, and nice. Who knows, maybe we’ll get the app to connect before Christmas 🤣. Ha. 👍🤪🏳️🌈

You say, that you won’t recommend a 990E for soundbar of year 2025 unless it is radical changed but couldn’t it still be the best soundbar compared to 2025 competion?
Similarly I would expect you to also consider B&O Stage and Sonos soundbars every year (with the latest firmware) even though they haven’t changed hardware-wise for a couple year.
Watching your videos being on the market I want to the best – not necessarily the latest…
Having Samsung Q90 TV, Q950T soundbar and ovens for 3 years and I don’t remember any of them ever getting an update… It seems Samsung is release and forget on all device types so the way they add a small improvement is forcing you to buy new hardware.
Maybe that is a subject for a video: Devices that are actually kept up to date via software updates.
Did you make any adjustments to the Channel Levels for your room? I bought one recently and have not made any adjustments and I’m definitely not hearing the overhead height channels. Is there a calibration process that one can follow to set up the soundbar?
Sry, but for me the design is the achilles heel of this setup. I would really like to have a 100% Samsung setup, but other competitor’s in the same price bracket manages design much better imo 🤷♂️
Just got the Samsung 990D for $950 and super excited! Black Friday deal pushed me over!
Love your reviews. I believe that Samsung should not stop the q990, but it may be the time to keep it instead of upgrading. Not much reasons to make it better by making something completely new, if they do have probably the best. I think thry should only make add-ons for it. Like a stronger sub to replace the original, and updates on the software. No need to make a new soundbar.

Can you/should you add additional surround speakers? I plan on wall mounts for the two that come with it, but wondering if two additionals (one on each and of the sofa, on end tables) would be even better.

I can buy used Monitor audio silver RS8 + RSLCR + Denon 3310 reciever for the same price as this soundbar from the shop. What do you think, should I buy soundbar or Monitor audio ?

How do u actually turn the Dolby atmos¿ on the small speakers only the front is making sound but not the top.
How does this compare to the Q930B (esp for a small room)
I returned the JBL 1300X for this and although the 990D’s satellite speakers are superior, the JBL’s bass is way better (IMO). I’m seriously considering returing the 990D for the JBL.
I see from avforums or possibly reddit that the spacefit pro is supposed to have effect over time and not immediate? Hence you don’t notice anything different upon toggling?
Pretty much every reviewer is hyping up the Samsung q990 soundbar, so I picked one up. It is easily the most disappointing soundbar I’ve ever heard, it’s not the worst, it’s just mediocre (but the most disappointing because of all the hype).
The height effects are decent, but otherwise it was like listening to a muffled muddy mess. If not for the height there would be no immersion at all. The bass is almost non existent and it feels like half the overall sound is missing from all the speakers (as far as range of sounds).
Not sure what to get to replace it but I’ve now learned I can’t count on the reviews to help me decide.
Mine sounds really harsh when they first hooked it up. I was in disbelief that it was the sound bar sounded like the TV speakers the bases extremely strong but only when there’s a strong base scene it’s overpowering when the systems on can’t really hear the voices very well.
Cant wait to ditch my full sonos setup for what ever the successor to this is.

Just purchased for Black Friday. I will have to use Front Mode due to my set up. I have a LG TV, do you recommend connecting the bar via eArc or WiFi?
Im lost. Mine SUCKS. Adjusting the various speakers does little to nothing, the bass is nonexistant except occasional blast from an elephant walk, etc, In music the voice is most often far in the background unless i change it away from spatial. Its mostly center and it sounds hollow – not as good as a Bose wave radio from 30 yrs ago. HELP! Dont make me call fuckin Samsung phone monkeys please.
Is it possible to buy the sound bar without the front mini speakers? As it wouldn’t work with my setup, pain in the ass that they both need an outlet haha

Just got the Q990D to replace my Q990B. I thought the Q990 B sounded great. But the new Q990 D is noticeably better. Very glad I purchased it! Everything just seems better controlled. The rear speakers are more integrated without being intrusive. The clarity of the front sound bar is improved. The subwoofer still provides plenty of base, but seems more controlled. In fact, the entire system just seems more controlled and mature. For lack of a better way to put it. Also a blessing is the fact that the power cord for the rear speakers are quite a bit longer than they were on the Q990 B. As someone said in an earlier comment I read, all the sound improvement may have been able to be done with a software update. But that’s not what Samsung chose to do. To sum up, I am very happy with my Q990 D purchase and I do think it betters the Q990 B and is worth the purchase cost, especially if you can get it for around $1000 which I have seen it at recently.

why so hard to add battery to back speakers? battery power should be a default option to rear surround speakers nowadays.
I hope not to upset anyone here. I have a Sony tv I can never get any sound out of Samsung soundbars they will just randomly disconnect and go to playing sound out of the tv. When they do play sound they sound muffled . So I gave up on them I only buy Sony products or ones from outside places like Sonos Klipsch ect.

I have a surround system from around 2011 that I think still sounds really good, but would I get even better sound quality from a modern sound bar with my Samsung QN85C tv?
I love my Q990B!
Only problem i quite often have is that when i stream stuff form my Nvidia Shield (Plex), which is connected to the Soundbar and i sometimes get de-sync between audio and video. Skipping back a few seconds fixes the problem. But i always wondered why that happened.
With qSymphony enabled this was REALLY bad and quite often the case. Sometimes i had to close the app, open youtube and then reopen plex to get the proper sound out of it. Some channels didn’t produce any sound at al.
Q990E needs multi sub support
that’s a horrible horrible soundbar … dolby atmos up firing speakers is a joke … nothing more than a gimmick … they don’t create more atmospheric sound … it sounds like a regular 5.1 home theatre and not even as such , as l–r speakers are still stuck on the soundbar itself … only good thing is descent base and the surround speakers that are included , but in total this sound system is pure crap … and expensive one … don’t expect to get the same sound quality of equally priced seperate components
Does the standard mode still use the rear speakers for 5.1, 7.1 or Dolby Atmos when applicable?

Andrew hit the nail on the head here in this review. Any time you are considering buying a Samsung Q990 setup, stop – and by the Sony Theater Quad instead. What didn’t get mentioned in the review is this: In order to match the immersion and surround capability of the Sony Theater Quad in another product, you would need to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of around $20,000, just to come close. Yeah, the Theater Quad is literally THAT good. Pass on the Samsung altogether and get the Sony Theater Quad instead. You will be SO glad you did!
CORRECTION: It has been brought to my attention by several of you that the Q990C and Q990B models also (or now) have the surround speaker Front Mode that was illustrated in this review. If this is true (we no longer have a Q990B/C to confirm this), then it would appear that the only difference between the "new" Q990D and its predecessor(s) is the presence of HDMI 2.1.
Apologies if my focus on the Front Mode was confusing to those of you with Q990B/C bars who have been enjoying this feature. The Front Mode, or maybe its presence within the Smart Things App, appeared "new" or updated with the Q990D, which is why I made it a larger point to call attention to it, as I do not recall this feature being available at the time we reviewed the original release of the Q990B or C. Regardless, I have been made aware that legacy bars have this feature, and it is not unique to the Q990D.
I still stand by my review and my recommendations to anyone considering a Samsung Soundbar system for themselves. If anything, this news only further cements my conclusion that the bar to get may be the even more affordable Q990C, which you can still find here: https://amzn.to/3LK0Vlt

I bought this unit on Black Friday with a g4. Seen comments from people saying it wasn’t enough bass and that it sucked. I decided to keep my box just in case I needed to return it. 20 minutes into the first Aquaman, I was impressed. I stopped the movie and played some music, the bass was shaking my walls. I threw away the box within an hour. I always over analyze when spending more than a couple hundred bucks, I haven’t even thought about the price.
Samsung could make their remote experience better, but they choose to push you to the app. Don’t encourage this.
