I think what tbis video was missing [ 6:45 ] at this point was a buyinng guide. What am i looking for in tech and matwrials. What should i be looking to avoid.
What do i need to know about compatibility.

  2. @azzyking9286 on December 31, 2024 at 6:20 pm

@diyperks recently built an amazing diy 0 latency wireless surround system.

Old good thing is still good and modern scam is still a scam. Who knew?

  4. @TheFourthWinchester on December 31, 2024 at 6:21 pm

This is just not possible for most countries. Audio gear is insanely high priced even after decades.

Came here from WAN show clips to say I enjoyed this video and found it cool to watch.

  6. @toxicturkeyy on December 31, 2024 at 6:23 pm

Need to make more videos like this. Always been interested in it, but you’ve actually got me into surround sound and i’m currently shopping for a setup.

  7. @danieldougan269 on December 31, 2024 at 6:23 pm

I just bought my parents a Vizio sound bar for Christmas. Is it the best sound? No, not even for the money. But it is a simple way to improve the dialogue clarity over the built-in TV speakers (my dad has lost a lot of hearing), and it’s something I won’t need to support for them.

  8. @Marc_Wolfe on December 31, 2024 at 6:25 pm

I like lobotomizing receivers to be just an amp. A single stereo input with no input switching, a volume knob for gain, and no stand-by power circuit. They just turn on with AC mains voltage. Some receivers are easy to do that to. Right now I basically have a 2.2 setup. VoiceMeeeter handles my EQ crossover. Tweeters have their original high pass capacitor that GM used on them in the 1994 buick Park Avenue I pulled them from. Next thing is replacing the 10" Sonys with a couple higher wattage lower Ohm 12s so my Pyle Pro PT 2000 (from a college dorm dumpster, just needed cleaned) can be even louder. I adapted my 10s to fit a set of Infinity Kappa 3 boxes; those boxes were gifted to me with 1 speaker replaced which didn’t match well.

  9. @durockps on December 31, 2024 at 6:25 pm

If you like sound quality, go for Soundblaster Katana V2, nothing beats it (maybe the extreme high-end brands). If you like immersion, go for a good old 5.1 system.

    watching on CRT TV
480 segment w good audio and 4k segment no difference🤨

  13. @brandnewdan on December 31, 2024 at 6:31 pm

I have the "British tuned" version of that big reciever. as a 2 channel it sounds AMAZING!
The DAC also sounds surprisingly good from coax!

  14. @ashishkushwaha3812 on December 31, 2024 at 6:32 pm

Do not mix different speakers. It’s tricky to match them. Especially crossover point. It screws the sound stage.

Also, tuning them with correcting the phases makes difference. You will be able to hear the smallest detailed possible if you spent time matching their phase.

I have my diy home theatre with speakers and subwoofers plus amps, preamps. I made it in a fraction of 1000 dollars. And it sounds like 1000 dollar ones

  15. @closer02001 on December 31, 2024 at 6:32 pm

sony has NEVER made good speakers. yech.

  17. @dexterpangilinan4850 on December 31, 2024 at 6:35 pm

I hope they release another video similar to this but extremely dumbed down. I cant follow 50% of what Linus is talking about.

  18. @resevil2396 on December 31, 2024 at 6:35 pm

I personally dont mind using optical cables and not running everything through the receiver. Every TV can output audio and even higher end units still have optical audio ports. Theres no reason im aware of to need to use your receiver as the central hub rather than the tv. Outside of maybe better cable hiding.

  19. @Tomhyde098 on December 31, 2024 at 6:39 pm

In 2022 I found a Yamaha 5.1 receiver (RX-V377) and Kenwood speakers for $20 at Goodwill. It’s fantastic

  20. @MrBillSabre on December 31, 2024 at 6:39 pm

Somehow, I think we’ve lost the meaning of "insane". Which, oddly enough, I find insane.

  21. @gamachesgarage3563 on December 31, 2024 at 6:40 pm

I have a Kenwood VR-507 with Yamaha left and right channels, Samsung left and rights linked to those, Samsung center, damaging surround, with an onkyo sub….its sweet lol

  22. @ellarpc on December 31, 2024 at 6:42 pm

I just checked my fb marketplace for surround sound gear, the same model Sony that you got for 40 Canadian, is selling for $200 American.

  23. @resevil2396 on December 31, 2024 at 6:43 pm

Im convinced the main reason more expensive but lower quality sound bars have taken over (even more so than complexity) is because many wives (and some husbands) dont like seeing the bulk and cables that come with surround sound. More minimalist setups seem to be the trend for the last decade. Thankfully my wife doesnt give a damn because i want to go surround sound. Until then, im making do with a very solid older stereo unit that i also got for like $40 off Facebook marketplace and also beats a lot of soundbars significantly.

  24. @sidj8447 on December 31, 2024 at 6:43 pm

Now compare with Matt’s (DIYperks) surround sound system that you sponsored 😊

  25. @x1RoBoT3x on December 31, 2024 at 6:44 pm

Went from a $130 3.1 soundbar to a 5.2 AVR setup worth several thousand dollars (did NOT pay that much) all because I stumbled across a pair of JBL bookshelf speakers at a thrift shop and the addiction began. I have no regrets. . .

  26. @notsure984 on December 31, 2024 at 6:50 pm

Good job now nobody else can do it. Stop scraping up the cheap ised stuff out there. There are regular people out there that need deals. Linus you suckit!!!

  27. @phenixnunlee372 on December 31, 2024 at 6:55 pm

I bought a panasonic ub-420 with an old receiver with analog 5.1 and it sounded great.

  30. @johnroberts2905 on December 31, 2024 at 6:56 pm

Those old Sony amps kick ass. Last of the analogue ones. I bought one new in 2002, used it as an AV amp for 14 years. Now lives on in my home office as a well overpowered 2.0 system.

  31. @T0TALLYAWESOMEGUY on December 31, 2024 at 6:57 pm

I don’t know why people spend big money on home theatre sound. Sound tech hasn’t changed much since last century, and so high quality older units are still high quality today.

  32. @defnotabird on December 31, 2024 at 6:58 pm

Pieced together a 5.1 setup for my desktop for less than $200. Bought Neumi BS5’s new for front channels, Sony STR-670P receiver with center and rear surrounds for $25 from Goodwill, Mirage Omni-S8 subwoofer for $50 on facebook. Some of the best money I’ve spent.
The used audio market can be a goldmine if you’re patient.

  33. @vinylcabasse on December 31, 2024 at 7:00 pm

someone get this man a laser measure. bosch are great

  34. @michelveldman4591 on December 31, 2024 at 7:00 pm

Nice video, to bad they have forgotten the midway solution: just plain old stereo. For some people this could the best solution, easier to setup, less cable managment and only two speakers (instead 5 + sub, or more) which will still wipe the floor with most soundbars

  35. @Fadeevator on December 31, 2024 at 7:00 pm

I would love to build something like this, but my room is tiny and my wife hates cables that will be exposed. So a soundbar is my ‘good enough’.

  36. @fedurrrass4226 on December 31, 2024 at 7:01 pm

I changed my aio LG 5.1 system for modern avr yamaha rx-v6a and polk audio signature elite es55 on front and es35c center speaker becouse have no space for bigger. Man, it’s sounds wonderfull in stereo in biamp mode. But just buy subwoofer becouse old was passive and must be active. Simple choice for room 20m2 svs sb 1000 pro. Damm it goes low. Good for rap songs also. Fronts was from 2nd hand so pay 50% normal price. Rest was new. If I have bigger room I will change maybe center speaker for bigger. Great setup for it’s price

  37. @Techfuse13 on December 31, 2024 at 7:02 pm

This makes me look forward to settling down somewhere.
Your video helped me understand how I would build out if I wanted to spend a little more in stages or ideally bargain shop.

  38. @kylesimonsen on December 31, 2024 at 7:04 pm

Aight, you got my watch time. In regards to the WAN, I love this style of video. I just didn’t care about the topic. So, I didn’t click on the video weeks ago. But hey, here I am, watching it cause it appeared in recommend after WAN show.

I’m happy with my JBL bar 1000, so while I won’t use this info right now, I find it really interesting as someone who knows nothing about this stuff.

  43. @richarddavis748 on December 31, 2024 at 7:08 pm

Every system needs at least two subwoofers even if there is only one subwoofer channel

  44. @HedgehogY2K on December 31, 2024 at 7:09 pm

Panasonic has a wireless 4 speaker neck thing called the SC-GNW10 and It’s… Slightly finicky to setup but that’s probably due to my AM4 USB ports. The surround sound is pretty useful for those who are testing or making 5.1 content. Make sure to setup Windows sound settings with the device to customize on what it can and can’t do. Funnily the IR receiver has an AUX out for a subwoofer which is pretty interesting. I tested between SRS Circle Surround (5.1 converted to clever stereo) and the actual 5.1 FLAC and felt the real 5.1 track is better. Someone please make a detailed review on the modes; there just isn’t enough dedicated info on it. Also, I would hope they can improve on speaker positions in later iterations of this concept. The speakers are about as good as the GS520 USB speakers, best USB speakers in the market but still USB powered. It also only goes down to 40hz as far as I can tell, not bad but shouldn’t bass be felt rather than heard? Also, the fact that the sub out means they’re really counting on you not having a sound system to begin with, which collides with my plans to use a VSX AVR to decode WMA Pro on my Xbox 360.

  45. @Greenener on December 31, 2024 at 7:09 pm

Whats the biggest speaker you could fit into your house?

  46. @RealMaGicXz on December 31, 2024 at 7:10 pm

this is awesome to see proper cheap setupss slamming this nonsense they try and sell ive had for 6 years my pioneer vsx 924k and have beeen running in a 5.2 setup without issue using arc channel for sound and unless wanting atmos i have 0 reason to upgrade and my setup ws about £350 all in

  47. @aronmadder1358 on December 31, 2024 at 7:11 pm

1 month after watching this i got my first surround and sold my soundbar. It’s great!
    Denon AVR
    2xKlipsch RF 62
    1xKlipsch RP-250C
    1xKlipsch RP-1200SW Subwoofer
    and rear speakers coming soon!

  48. @fretbuzz_ on December 31, 2024 at 7:12 pm

Justva fyi for the next time. Switching the amp to 4 ohm kills the power. The only reason for the switch is thermal levels during UL testing.

  49. @SerenityForschen on December 31, 2024 at 7:13 pm

My home surround system consists of four giant old (like the 80s-90s) Pioneer speakers, a couple of used Bose speakers with a Sony receiver (7.1) and subwoofer, and a Klipsch surround speaker set. Basically, it’s like a Frankenstein’s monster.

  50. @HedgehogY2K on December 31, 2024 at 7:13 pm

13:37 I made a decision. Because of this video, I looked up options that support 8 ohms. I found the Polk series of speakers. R900 for stereo and OWM3 for rear while my Nanosat Prestige will be the surround in the side walls. No center as I actually find the center for speech to be kind of annoying, 6.1 it is then, hope WMA Pro 7.1 is fine with that on my Xbox 360.
