Europe’s Favorite Smart Lock Just Hit the U.S.—Here’s What I Think

🔐 Best Smart Lock for Apple Home? Testing the Nuki Smart Lock + Keypad 2 (Now in the U.S.)

Looking for a smart lock that works with Apple Home, Matter, and is easy enough for the whole family to use? In this video, I review and install the new Nuki Smart Lock and Keypad 2—a popular smart lock brand from Europe that’s now officially launching in the United States.

I tested it for Apple HomeKit integration, Matter over Thread support, geofencing, fingerprint access, and more to see if it’s the best smart lock for families and whether it’s worth installing on your front door.

Find out how it performs, what I love about it, what’s missing (no Home Key?), and why I almost kept this lock for myself.

They can shove the subscription !!! 👎

  2. @HowardOlsen on October 22, 2025 at 2:39 am

Is the rechargeable battery user replaceable or is this more "disposable tech" coming from hypocritical green Europe?

  3. @NightStalker83 on October 22, 2025 at 2:40 am

    cents

  4. @williammoney3681 on October 22, 2025 at 2:40 am

Is the data really stored locally if you sign up for the subscription? Or is that only with IOS devices?

  5. @nunocatarino1290 on October 22, 2025 at 2:42 am

Can you use this Nuki lock with SwitchBot Keypad Vision (e.g. with an automation)?

  6. @wbwarshaw on October 22, 2025 at 2:42 am

HomeKey for me is a must have. Is this perhaps not supported via Matter?

  7. @rarchacki200 on October 22, 2025 at 2:42 am

This product is not compatible with Schlage brand deadbolts.

  8. @RDlinkenhoker on October 22, 2025 at 2:43 am

I’ll pass, but thanks for the review!

  9. @rickdeckard9810 on October 22, 2025 at 2:46 am

I like my Wyze bolt lock $99 this one is 3x the price.

  10. @toddfromflorida on October 22, 2025 at 2:48 am

Automatically suspicious when the company who makes the product being reviewed sponsors the video. I’ll pass.

I have an august lock and it’s been great in the last 3 apartments I’ve been in. This seems like the same thing but rechargeable which I like, and thread is a big win. But I think the august lock is usually closer to $100 on prime day, or cyber Monday, so this is a but too high of a price I feel like. Also no USB-C on a product from the EU is an interesting choice.

Above all, though, it’s just not a good time to upgrade your smart-lock. With UWB around the corner, and Schlage already announcing a model, trust me you’ll want a UWB lock. As someone that has UWB car key with Apple Car Key 2, it’s game changer. It’s like going from wired CarPlay to wireless, there’s no going back.

The biggest (and it is HUGE) downside to a lock like this is, there is no "physical" ingress component, so if your electronics are whack or otherwise just not working, you are screwed. Compare this to an "old" key/lock, where you have a physical key to use.

If its from the uk i dont want it… its probably full of ways to steal your data bc that seems to be the mo of the uk right now…

  14. @DoctorShaunB on October 22, 2025 at 2:53 am

When you get Nuki, you don’t need a new key.

  15. @hellogoodbye. on October 22, 2025 at 2:57 am

Thread 😑 I was into this lock until the hub requirement

  16. @ichigen511 on October 22, 2025 at 2:59 am

this lock looks like a nightmare waiting to happen. nothing will beat a lock and key. but at least you got paid to shill for this company! final word: your stupid wife locked herself out of the house but you never have? give me a fucking break. unliked and not subscribed.

  17. @snakesms on October 22, 2025 at 2:59 am

I did like Nuke years ago, but now it doesn’t have any benefits over Augus or Aqara, more expensive and less functional

  18. @ralphgabb3487 on October 22, 2025 at 3:00 am

Just so I’m understanding this right it connects with matter over thread and doesn’t use wifi?

  19. @BlazingNina on October 22, 2025 at 3:02 am

They say home key is coming soon to a new keypad

  20. @TinCan.Sailor on October 22, 2025 at 3:04 am

Are there any smart door knobs?

  21. @AlteredLP on October 22, 2025 at 3:04 am

Can you create PIN/access codes through HomeKit for people to access the door?

  22. @serratedsteel on October 22, 2025 at 3:05 am

I did it all for the Nuki! the Nuki!

  23. @SvenHerrmann-gv4mh on October 22, 2025 at 3:05 am

It looks a bit different from the European version. Here, you have to replace the entire cylinder lock if you install the latest Nuki. Since I have a strong security cylinder, that’s not an option for me. I also don’t like Nuki Premium. At the moment I’m still using a Dana Lock.

  24. @Mr.C0ffee on October 22, 2025 at 3:07 am

Review of a product sponsored by the company? 🤡 ok bro. Plus. No home key? Nahh ✋

  25. @clipeclipaway on October 22, 2025 at 3:08 am

Wish these bolts would have a way to not be battery powered. I don’t mind having a wire across the door.

  26. @daddybgood on October 22, 2025 at 3:08 am

Batteries in the outside keypad are a winter fail point.

  27. @heyiceman on October 22, 2025 at 3:13 am

Nuki Premiim becomes a paid subscription after September 30 —MASSIVE NO

  28. @marcussp83 on October 22, 2025 at 3:14 am

You like this more than Level Lock?

  29. @hombrenuevoacts1728 on October 22, 2025 at 3:15 am

Now we need sturdy doors/frame posts with no glass! That can be broken! 😂😂😂

  30. @buixuanbaodanh5203 on October 22, 2025 at 3:16 am

I’m exploring smart home devices and automations. But I’m don’t find smart locks particularly useful really. I think of it as a trade of security for convenience with a high price. Am I missing something here?

  32. @josesardinas7660 on October 22, 2025 at 3:16 am

Been working in tech for decades… Seen tech gone more expensive, less reliable and less secure year over year… If there’s something I know about "smart homes" is I don’t want one.

  33. @hurricane31415 on October 22, 2025 at 3:17 am

"premium" prompt + needs to be charged = never

  34. @Mr-SideArm on October 22, 2025 at 3:17 am

No Apple HomeKey so no thank you

  35. @kentao4 on October 22, 2025 at 3:21 am

What’s the best non deadbolt smart lock that’s compatible with apple home? I want one for my office/mancave that only has a regular knob.

  36. @rob_over_9000 on October 22, 2025 at 3:21 am

I don’t think this gets said often enough, but I appreciate the intersection with 3D printing on this channel because there really are so many uses for it that you showcase subtly without turning the video into a CAD tutorial

  37. @RobCarstuff9112 on October 22, 2025 at 3:23 am

Buyer beware unless your door closes and locks without pulling or pushing to lock the deadbolt smart locks will not work and get jammed up most doors don’t close and lock without performing the statement above.

  38. @dansellssoflo on October 22, 2025 at 3:24 am

Is this child safety lock? so kids can’t run out. Which lock would you recommend?

  39. @aleemrahaman-rb9mf on October 22, 2025 at 3:25 am

Just don’t bring that name to Jamaica 🇯🇲 😂

  40. @seanstewart8566 on October 22, 2025 at 3:26 am

Huh 🤔 I don’t get it the inside

  41. @aaronhinton92 on October 22, 2025 at 3:28 am

I just wish there was a company who would make smart locks for back patio sliding doors.

  42. @PhoenixFit2024 on October 22, 2025 at 3:29 am

Just no. This shit is getting crazy. Just turn the bolt lock and go to bed.

  43. @richards6367 on October 22, 2025 at 3:30 am

They give you the lock and sponsor your video- then it’s just an advert for the company, cannot be considered a reliable review.

  44. @mkii9110 on October 22, 2025 at 3:31 am

so cant use apple home key i guess, i mean not needed really since it can unlock when close but can you?

  45. @TheCompton2010 on October 22, 2025 at 3:32 am

    Sponsored reviews are worthless

  46. @seanstewart8566 on October 22, 2025 at 3:32 am

Now why the hell would you put the thumb print on the inside

  47. @seanstewart8566 on October 22, 2025 at 3:33 am

    It’s trash 🗑️

  48. @traj00 on October 22, 2025 at 3:33 am

I’ve been using August locks for years, but never was happy with changing batteries every month. This looks like a good replacement. One thing I wish, is being able to see whether it is locked/unlocked just by glancing at it.

  49. @HawaiiKauai on October 22, 2025 at 3:34 am

My favorite access method is still a regular key.
Pin pads look ugly, NFC and app access are usually slower than just turning a key (since your iPhone basically becomes another “key” you have to carry). Generating PINs for tenants is nowhere near as seamless as the ads suggest.

Bottom line: the tech is still too raw to replace the classic lock and key. And please, spare me the “high security” claims — the internal mechanics are usually the cheapest junk you’ve ever seen, so there’s no way they’ll truly protect a flimsy door.

  50. @EdwardEnglish144 on October 22, 2025 at 3:35 am

I bought the product after watching your video. It worked great for three weeks, very responsive compared with my old smart lock. But this week the yellow plastic cog insert broke and the lock is now completely useless. Seems like a great idea, but definitely will not last with plastic components. Submitted a help ticket to Nuki with photos, reply was to ask me for the photos. Super helpful…. Luckily I was 1 day before the return windows on Amazon so I’m just going to return it. Would not recommend until they upgrade their components to metal.
