I have Nest Wifi, Nest outdoor cams, Nest Doorbell, Nest Protects. It’s all been pretty good but I want away from Google now to be honest. The fact that I’m still having to say "hey google" is ridiculous too when we’re this far down the road with smart home assistants. If google added the feature to change to a more naturally sounding command then I’d seriously consider staying but we all know they absolutely will not add that feature.

That’s a lot to take in, but I think I gave a general idea. I live in a very small home, but I am remodeling 2 bathroom where I want to control lights and speakers with my YouTube videos. So I think this might be what I want. Thank you.

I want to switch from Blink to Google. Blink is really hard to renew the subscription plan. Sure the cameras might be a little cheaper but you can’t use more than half the functionality of the cameras cuz they don’t make it clear how to get a subscription plan. I dealt with Blink for about 2 years now and I’m half way out the door

Like you Paul I’ve decided on Google Home for my new smart home along side of Telus SmartHome Security for professional monitoring. We are going with Telus PureFibre for internet. My next question is between Telus Wi-Fi Plus and Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro for my mesh network. Your thoughts?

  25. @panman2632 on August 23, 2025 at 10:30 pm

To use the intercom thing is pretty cool, especially if nobody smells the food or if you have a huge house and don’t wanna walk everywhere.

I got the google home display from my daughter a couple years ago for Christmas and haven’t used much until this month. I have 2 minis setup and am adding smart plugs and security cameras outside. For plugs and cameras, I am using Tapo by TP-Link. Reason I went with this brand is my router is a TP-Link mesh system so connecting is streamlined and stable. Eventually as we remodel, we will replace items like ceiling fans, light bulbs and appliances with smart ones.

I would defently reccomend upgrading that exterior camera i work for a security company and we call that a 722 camera and it it very old and outdated. I’d upgrade to the 724 camera.
