Collective Minds Showcase VS Official Sony Charging Station | PSVR2 REVIEW

Collective Minds Showcase VS Official Sony Charging Station | PSVR2 REVIEW

Let’s compare the two highest quality options for PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller Charging Docks. Full disclaimer: Collective Minds sent me their dock for free while I paid for the official Sony one, which of course would never affect my opinion

Got the collective minds one. I like it and glad I brought one.

  2. @vrspaceman on May 9, 2025 at 3:45 pm

Sony charging docks are terrible, very hard to correctly have them in place

  3. @davidtorto4404 on May 9, 2025 at 3:48 pm

seeing as the original charging docks looks like to be out of stock i preordered the collective minds one

  4. @final0222 on May 9, 2025 at 3:48 pm

Could the too strong magnets, damage the controllers overtime?

  5. @dominiktatarka4810 on May 9, 2025 at 3:50 pm

Is the song the one from Ghost Giant 😍😍😍 love that game on PSVR1 🥲 would love a PSVR2 remaster…

  6. @sladey31 on May 9, 2025 at 3:50 pm

My collective mind one broke pretty quickly. It charges the right controller but not the left. When you dock it, it just stays blue even when it’s dead. No response from the company 😢

  7. @bocty1 on May 9, 2025 at 3:56 pm

Would love to know how the stand is holding up after a month of use

  8. @Cybo-Man on May 9, 2025 at 3:56 pm

Terrible design. Why do I have to cut my arms off to slip my hands into the controllers from the backside while they’re on the base?

  9. @Silon-g9b on May 9, 2025 at 4:02 pm

I really wish we could take the cord off the headset for storage/ not in use. It’s already unplugable from the front for cleaning purposes, why not let us unplug the cord all the way from the side?

  10. @Sinuev1 on May 9, 2025 at 4:03 pm

You’ve had the system long enough – how much battery life do you get out of the Sense controllers? Honestly, the built-in battery was always a bugbear of mine with the DS4, but at least with that you can just plug in the controller and keep playing – not really an option for motion controllers. I really tend to prefer traditional batteries which can be swapped out within seconds to keep a gaming session going, and rechargeable ones so you’re not burning monety generating a ton of ewaste. That said, I’d probably pick the collective charger just for being cheaper, but I don’t like the idea of having a headset "stand" which leaves the lenses unprotected. I got a dedicated VR case for my PSVR, and a thick velvet bag w/ drawstring for my Reverb G2 which prevents dust from gathering, keeps stray lightsources from damaging the screens, and keeps everything compact and out of the way. I know the temptation is there to really show off the hardware, but I would HIGHLY suggest a dedicated shell/or cloth covering for VR headsets when not in use. If displaying it is a must, get some felt caps that cover the lenses for protection when not in use.

I pre-ordered the official with my headset, as I knew I’d need a dock of some sort, I do like the look of the collective minds charging dock, but space is the issue for me, the official sits nicely under my TV

I agree that it can be fiddly to get the controllers seated properly, and it would be nice to have that snap from a stronger magnet to pull them into place easier

  12. @robertchant9627 on May 9, 2025 at 4:05 pm

Ive had mine 6months dont work no more

  13. @DUBDUB511 on May 9, 2025 at 4:06 pm

Don’t the stronger mags affect the electronics within the controllers?

I feel like sony knows best. Maybe the other brand will ware off the electronics over time, particularly the sound based haptics.

  14. @dr.chungusphd108 on May 9, 2025 at 4:07 pm

Wish I had watched this before buying the Sony one.

  15. @bloomerb4162 on May 9, 2025 at 4:08 pm

So what do you guys do with the cable?

  16. @MrRunning84 on May 9, 2025 at 4:11 pm

My only worry with having the headset out all the time is dust. Are the lenses protected at all? This is why I’ve decided to store my headset in the box it came in.

  17. @apukdcfc on May 9, 2025 at 4:14 pm

Did you try the official dock with the collective minds magnetic adapters to see if they work better.

Maybe Sony could issue replacement adapters or we could buy 3rd party adapters if the CM ones work better with the official dock?

  18. @Alex_Logan22 on May 9, 2025 at 4:15 pm

Sold out unfortunately, gotta get another 3rd party.

  19. @Willie_VR_Racing on May 9, 2025 at 4:15 pm

    Nice review

  20. @josh.lo8572 on May 9, 2025 at 4:15 pm

I have real problems whit the official one

  21. @007feck on May 9, 2025 at 4:15 pm

I prefer to put the headset back into the original box after gaming to keep dust off it, so went with the official one just for the chargers

  22. @twitcherthesingleplayergamecat on May 9, 2025 at 4:15 pm

    Great video, Bryan.

I bought the official Sony one day one and I’m perfectly happy with it. Got the knack of placing the controllers in accurately, and now they go in first time, every time.

Now I just need a second pair of controllers (and another pair of dongles, lol) so I’ve always got a pair fully charged and ready to go!

  23. @troybailey7166 on May 9, 2025 at 4:17 pm

Got mine today, been using the offical sony prior. My main complaint is the charging indicator is on 100% of the time. While the Sony has no indicator, which I prefer over the neon blue light being constantly illuminated. I’ll give it sometime but while I need a stand for my headset I wish the lights would time out after charging

  24. @Riddick94 on May 9, 2025 at 4:17 pm

It’s so difficult to get the Collective Minds tho. They are out-of-stock everywhere already.

  25. @TheAbvsyork on May 9, 2025 at 4:17 pm

I like the sony one, it isn’t as big and bulky.

  26. @oursique on May 9, 2025 at 4:18 pm

Great video, looking for more accessory reviews!

  27. @MattyFreedom on May 9, 2025 at 4:18 pm

I got this too and it does a good job. Very clear it is charging or not, quick and compact.

  28. @OriginalUberbitch on May 9, 2025 at 4:18 pm

I have the official one cause I don’t have enough space for the Collective Minds one (which, when bought outside of the US, will cost almost 50 dollars if you include taxes and shipping). My only issue with the official charger is the lack of magnets cause I never manage to put the controllers in at the first attempt, but at some point I guess I’ll get used to it.

  29. @TEYDERK on May 9, 2025 at 4:18 pm

También hay una todo en uno, para refrigerar la PS5 y cargar los controles del VR y dualsense, aparte de tener soporte para los auriculares como los de la Play.

Habrá que ver qué cosas extra fabrican.

  30. @billywonka2469 on May 9, 2025 at 4:19 pm

Mine won’t charge.. seems like you need a master at Harvard to get this charging

  31. @scobymanthegamecat8130 on May 9, 2025 at 4:20 pm

Had charging issue with an after market dual sense charger. Got the Sony charger and issue went away. So went with Sony sense charger this time. No issues with it. And headset stores on a ceiling hook because of cable manage system. No cord yanking or tripping here.

  32. @Digimortal1622 on May 9, 2025 at 4:20 pm

Does anyone here know if PSVR 2 can be used with a 5.1 receiver and speakers? I used this set up for PSVR and it worked great, but I’m hearing you can’t do this on PSVR 2. Any info would really be appreciated!!

  33. @chronotaru6411 on May 9, 2025 at 4:21 pm

Having a headset stand without any area to cover the lenses from sunlight and dust is flawed.

  34. @markus9641 on May 9, 2025 at 4:23 pm

I always buy official so the resale value doesnt drop to the ground competely

  35. @beckim5 on May 9, 2025 at 4:25 pm

I pre-ordered the collective minds one beginning of February, and won’t be receiving it until March 15th.😢

  36. @TheAztec010 on May 9, 2025 at 4:25 pm

    Collective Garbage 🗑️ no thanks!

    Sony charger works just fine.

Seen 100 versions of this same video. I liked the video for the effort put into this infomercial.

  37. @G00NERJ80 on May 9, 2025 at 4:26 pm

I bought the Sony version and after trying them for one charge cycle returned it and pre ordered the collective minds.. awaiting for its arrival on Monday

  38. @Spelpojken on May 9, 2025 at 4:30 pm

Interesting. First. The price here in Sweden is almost reversed. (Just as the charging lights in the review ;))
But yeah. I have the official dock and even if it works and looks great it’s a pain to use. Might just be user error but I fumble around every. single. time, to get the controllers to sit in the correct location.

  39. @TimedRelease on May 9, 2025 at 4:32 pm

I have the official one. At first it was a bit awkward getting the controllers to set in it properly but after a while it isn’t an issue. I also don’t want my headset exposed to dust so I didn’t want it on a stand. I keep it in the box I came in and pull it out when I’m gonna use it.

  40. @pasteghost428 on May 9, 2025 at 4:33 pm

I have several collective minds products for my Fanatec sim rig. They’ll respond to your questions promptly. Their website is trustworthy. I’ve bought the Drivehub and the Copilot. Over a year and still works perfectly.

  41. @Wombat57484 on May 9, 2025 at 4:33 pm

Curious to see if the Collective Minds dock melts my controllers, since I appear to be the 4th victim of the controller melting issue

Collective Minds might not replace the charger and controllers so readily, even if the two products share the same engineering flaw

  42. @Bryan-nr8ji on May 9, 2025 at 4:36 pm

I can’t find the Collective Minds charger anywhere. It was on Amazon and GameStop but it’s since been taken off of those websites.

  43. @chrismorrison5301 on May 9, 2025 at 4:36 pm

The bright charging lights is a negative, random bright lights in my room annoy me.

  44. @G.HADJOE on May 9, 2025 at 4:37 pm

Sony dock hands down, easy to dock and minimal

  45. @GreyMatterShades on May 9, 2025 at 4:38 pm

I’m still on the fence, honestly. I’m sort of leaning toward the official one because of the smaller footprint and less lights (I hate having a ton of lit up stuff). But that price… 😬
    Appreciate the comparison!

  46. @Oblivion486 on May 9, 2025 at 4:38 pm

I got the Collective Mind one and absolutely love it. Glad I got it over the official one

  47. @-Sangral- on May 9, 2025 at 4:39 pm

I like the Sony one better. I actually like that it’s standalone without the headset. It looks like it could be difficult to remove the controllers if the headset is already on the collective minds station.
And the Sony one has a really nice weight and feels prestige.

Also, most people use the the Sony one wrong, you don’t put the controllers in with orientating on the dongle like in this video, you focus on the R2/L2 shape and then you have no problems of hitting the spot.

  48. @Professorcat99 on May 9, 2025 at 4:40 pm

    Thank you for existing

  49. @OneManTagTeam on May 9, 2025 at 4:42 pm

I have the official dock but really want one of these if they ever get back in stock in the uk

  50. @vincevirtua on May 9, 2025 at 4:42 pm

I’m ok with the Sony official one. It’s smaller and does its job, but yeah, it can be a bit tricky to find its “sweet spot” when putting them in place.
