Abbott Freestyle Libre 3 Review — A Discrete CGM For Diabetics
Abbott Laboratories newest continuous glucose monitor is now available at participating retail pharmacies and through durable medical equipment suppliers. The Freestyle Libre 3 was approved by the FDA in June and is a step up from previous Abbott systems.
Abbott Laboratories and Dexcom are the leaders in the CGM market, which hit $5.1 billion in revenue in 2021 and is expected to reach $13.2 billion by 2028, according to Vantage Market Research. Abbott’s CGM systems, called FreeStyle Libre, generated $3.7 billion in revenue last year, with 4 million users globally.
CNBC’s Erin Black, a type 1 diabetic, tested out the Libre 3 for over a month. Here is her review.

this is the worst one on market will not stick on arm and it is latex and causes infection at the site
My Libre 3 plus is convenient, easy to use. But… it’s 20 points low when compared to a blood poke. I get why. Don’t explain why. My issue is the hard alert (generally in the middle of the night) at 50. That means my blood sugar is a lovely 70. since we EXPECT it to be potentially 20 points low, I should be able to turn it down to 40 before issuing the critical alert.

Just picked mine up yesterday. My sensor gave wonky readings through the first 16 hours and is slowly getting more accurate (at hour 13 it said I was at 50 while my regular meter said read 136!.) I also am stuck using their reader because my Samsung A14 phone isn’t supported. Not quite the smooth transition I had hoped for.

This is the best thing since sliced bread. It helped me go from an A1c of 7.3 to an A1c of 6.5. As a type 2 for several years, I’m finally able to take control of my diabetes and lower my weight. Thanks for a great product!
Needing to learn this system as it’s been ‘highly’ recommended from my medical professionals…. This is the one that has been suggested!!!

I recently began use of the Libre 3 reader and sensors. The fist 2 sets of sensors stopped working after 6 days of use. The battery needs frequent recharging. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with them each time as they required all types of technical and reader information before sending sensor replacement. Their product so far is unreliable and a headache. If the third set of sensors doesn’t function as advertised I am giving up on them, even though my Medicare covers it.
But my dad told me that “The stuff on FreeStyle Libre isn’t accurate.”
Useless when you have to get to the point where you are on an insulin pump. This should be over the county and more affordable to use to prevent needing a god damn insulin pump. The CDC wants us on an insulin pump that is why we can’t get this to help avoid getting to the point where we have to have a goddamn insulin pump.

DO NOT BE FOOLED! This product does NOT measure your glucose level. It measures the interstitial fluid above your blood. It is not the same and the cgm CANNOT be calibrated to match your actual blood glucose.
Libre 3 is very good, been using it 3 months very accurate

The battery only last two weeks. I wish I could use it all year instead of using the Freestyle blood Glucose monitoring system.
I used the deck column G7 so I thought I would try the Libra 3 I did not like it there were too many disadvantages you have to check your blood glucose manually by pricking your finger at least once or twice a day it’ll ask for the results and if you don’t do it the receiver freezes and you cannot get a reading I thought this was redundant as far as placement goes I found other suitable areas that didn’t cause any kind of complications I think the back of the arm is really disadvantaged it gets in a way when you’re resting reading leaning watching TV or whatever you get bad readings if you put too much pressure on it
Using the Libre 3 with Afrezza (Inhaled Insulin) I can manage my BG in REAL TIME. I take Afrezza at the beginning of my meal and it starts working in 3 minutes. It instantly shuts down the glucose that my liver releases and it’s out of my body in 90 minutes. It’s remarkable and thanks to Libre 3 my A1C and TIR (Time in Range) is amazing.

This thing wakes us up in the middle of the night. We retest and get completely different results. We’re going to ask our doctor to discontinue the use. It’s a waste of money since it keeps getting the wrong results.
Yes the Libre 3 is terrific, easy to apply, easy to takevoff. Provides valuable feed back.
I’m age 66 and Type 2 diabetic diagnosed about ten years. My average score is down from 148 to 137, had gone lower. My GMI is down from 7.0 to 6.6. Makes me conscious of not eating cookies, bread, pastries that raise my scores. Had one night score dropp to 52 and alarm went off, didnt feel anything, ate something.
Overall wish I had started using a sensor charting blood glucose much earlier. Highly recommend this.
Had initial concerns that alarms would go off when in a meeting or church. Turned off alarms except for less than 55 glucose score, graphs show my score can drop quickly, need to monitor to know when to eat a snack.
Can use further help on how to interpret the graphs, diet, finding alternative foods to favorites which raise score.
One limitation is freestyle libre 3 doesnt appear to work on Samsung 24 ultra, it does work on Samsung Ultra 23. Fortunately I kept me 23 when I recently upgraded.

The libre 3 plus is a fraudulent gimmick!! Don’t even bother buying this or have your quack Dr. put it in your arm or on you anywhere!!! I have had it put on my are for 24 hrs now by my sugar Dr. and not even close to what a finger stick!! If I were to go on this thing and go eat some starch or something 114 and it was dropping, so it said. I really would have very high sugar! My finger stick said 140 BIG DIFFERENCE! So this is just one example of the reading I get from this crap! 👎🏼Yes It’s on right!!
