This Power Bank is Made From Carbon Fiber ( NiteCore NB10000 Gen 2 )

2 years ago I reviewed the original NB10000 from NiteCore and I loved it! It was and still is one of the lightest weight power banks out on the market; while my review was very positive I did have a few suggestions to improve the product.

Two years have passed and NiteCore has a new Generation 2 version and I’ve been testing it out for the last couple of weeks and in this episode, I’ll be sharing my thoughts.

…..
Review Pros :
– Extremely lightweight – one of the lightest on the market
– Very small power bank – takes up no space in my pack
– Excellent quality
– No issues with charging : no glitches experienced
– Excellent waterproofing : IPX5 rated water resistant – there are other channels completely submerging these are they keep working
– Looks great, feels great, feels very sturdy even though it is so lightweight
– I like the yellow rings that surround the ports
– It recharges quickly too; from one bar flashing to full charge in around 3.5 hrs with a good wall charger.
– Can dual charge – charge two devices or charge a single device while charging the power bank –
– Good capacity – With my average overnight trip, I can charge my phone and run a led light at camp for hours with energy left over.
Reliable : My experiences with the Gen 1 have been perfect – I’ve used it one every single trip that I’ve been on over the last 2 years; that’s at least one trip per week and I’ve never had a single problem. All of the ports work, I haven’t noticed any battery degradation, no swellings, etc and I expect no issues with this Gen 2 model. Nothing so far with almost a month of use.

Review Cons :
Dual Charing is nice but when charging two devices at the same time, neither is at fast charging speeds because both channels are being used.

: Improvements Made and What I would still like to see :

Made –
The company improved the power indicators; previously it was in the power switch and was difficult to read. The separate indicators on the new version is much better.

They raised the USB C charging port from 18W to 20W.

I have a cheap 26800 one from Amazon it works great and been working for 2 years. Has a solar panel in case of emergency.

    What are intensive purposes?

  3. @alanmcvicar8608 on January 2, 2025 at 6:23 pm

I have the Gen 2 for months now , its a must for lightweight trips , the power is just right, not too small , & for longer trips just recharge using an Rav power solar charger. Was taking the Anker power banks before , although they are qulity products the weight of these & others is a no no.

  4. @YoutUub-x1l on January 2, 2025 at 6:25 pm

    Are they true rated 10,000mah?

  5. @BoofSquank on January 2, 2025 at 6:25 pm

How long will it hold a charge if you don’t use it? Let’s say you charge the battery fully and then never plug a device in, how long will the battery hold the charge? Weeks? Months?

Is there a difference between the Nitecore nb10000 gen 2 carbon and the normal Nitecore nb10000 gen 2?

  9. @CampuStellae on January 2, 2025 at 6:34 pm

    It’s already time for a GEN3

  10. @DerNesor on January 2, 2025 at 6:34 pm

Now I just need a version with 2 USB c ports. I have no USB A adapter anymore

  11. @wolfeadventures on January 2, 2025 at 6:34 pm

The gen one status, LEDs were absolutely horrible. Nearly impossible to see in the daylight. The gen two is a huge improvement on these LED lights.

  12. @patriciusop on January 2, 2025 at 6:34 pm

I prefer Green Cell GC PowerPlay10S.

  13. @donnydread7631 on January 2, 2025 at 6:36 pm

I bought the old version along with a nicore headlamp, and was disappointed that the charging cables were not the same. Not a huge deal, but I’d rather not have to carry 3 different charging cables.

    I like it

  16. @Kaiesis on January 2, 2025 at 6:39 pm

Just shows the product was perfect on first release. They should have called it v2 instead of gen2 since the changes are not generational differences.

  17. @tomjay89 on January 2, 2025 at 6:39 pm

the 20000mah version is OVER twice the weight (yes only a bit over) and twice, nearly 3x the price, so might as well just buy two of these :’)

  18. @GalenRhys on January 2, 2025 at 6:41 pm

On the backend, they could have added a low powered light. Helpful when waking up in the middle of the night.

  19. @VolfiMartin on January 2, 2025 at 6:41 pm

I bought this power bank and was very disappointed. It is a very nice and small device. But three things no one mentions. 1. When I use 20w charging for a phone or tablet, the power bank gets extremely hot. I estimate the temperature to be over 55°C. 2. Because the power bank heats up like this, its efficiency will not be good, but I did not measure the efficiency. 3. When the last LED started to light up, the voltage of the powerbank started to drop from 12.03v to approx. 11v and then shut off even though it wasn’t fully discharged.

  20. @TheWindedWalker on January 2, 2025 at 6:43 pm

I have a 5000 mAh battery in my S22 Ultra. I’ll be going out on a thru hike next summer that will be roughly 14 days with no civilization from end to end. I’ll definitely need something that will give me 13 to 14 recharges . . . I’m sure my inReach will make it fine, and I’ll have 2 headlamps, so that shouldn’t be an issue (I assume . . lol) . I would think that this nitecore powerbank would only give a 5000 mAh battery 1 charge and maybe a partial. Any suggestions?

  21. @cal8362 on January 2, 2025 at 6:43 pm

I have the first gen and love it

  22. @dovetomarc on January 2, 2025 at 6:45 pm

No offense. I like your reviews. However, you could have done this in half the time. Lots of repetition. Just some “customer feedback”.

  23. @igloo2862 on January 2, 2025 at 6:45 pm

The weight is very impressive, but the price is double comparable products by anker or aukey

  24. @frankmertz8366 on January 2, 2025 at 6:46 pm

Awesome Review as Always. My Ravpower 26800 mah covers all my needs and works great

  25. @markswishereatsstuff2500 on January 2, 2025 at 6:50 pm

Just ordered this. Moosejaw had the same price of $60 all around the internets, but had a 20% off code and added a small Trailtopia noodle pouch to kick in the free shipping threshold.

  26. @oldcrackadated on January 2, 2025 at 6:51 pm

Just ordered a nitecore power bank because of the length of time you’ve been using one , that’s all the proof I need if it can survive the storms , heat & cold that you go through

  27. @ssos4540 on January 2, 2025 at 6:52 pm

I’ve had the 1st one for a couple years and love it. I’ve been considering getting a Gen2 as a 2nd one.

  28. @stevemuzak8526 on January 2, 2025 at 6:52 pm

This is a must if you’re serious about ultra light hiking.

  29. @frosty0419 on January 2, 2025 at 6:52 pm

They also make a 5000 that support wireless charging. I’ll hold out for the 10000

  30. @Whigu on January 2, 2025 at 6:54 pm

About NB2000 Don’t buy it. I have had one little bit over a year and it has been mostly been just painful to use. Sometimes it doesn’t output anything… sometimes it only charge from in/out port and not from input port and now it’s started to expand so it’s probably going to explode soon =( I have been really unhappy with this product and I just email to their customer service so let’s see hw they will hand it.

  31. @vajona2495 on January 2, 2025 at 6:56 pm

Imagine being a dumba$$ explaining stuff you don’t understand. /shrug

  32. @WildernessDude2024 on January 2, 2025 at 6:56 pm

@Theoutdoorgearreview That’s awesome. I just ordered a Nitecore 43 headlamp, battery extension and backup battery, the Fsp 30 solar panel, the summit10000 bank because it’s cold resistance to -40f. Great channel watch it all the time and your knowledge helps us a ton purchasing gear. Thx a ton for that! 🤘😎

  33. @TwitchRadio on January 2, 2025 at 6:57 pm

    😎👍💯

  34. @3xperiman on January 2, 2025 at 7:00 pm

The death of my nb10000 brought me here 😢

  35. @armondobbabone8556 on January 2, 2025 at 7:00 pm

How about idle power bleed off (how long can it sit in your backpack when fully charged and not being used, before needing a recharge)?

  36. @isabelllowenherz2213 on January 2, 2025 at 7:01 pm

If You would be in a bad bugout situation, would You prefer this Nitecore or the Blavor outdoor 10000?

  37. @toocleanpappas5397 on January 2, 2025 at 7:01 pm

Just got two for the weight savings (Thru-hiker), but was actually surprised when I got them in my hands. Dang they really are small! My last ones were the lightest Ankers, and these things are noticeably smaller. I was a bit concerned about how trustworthy they would be vs Anker (Which always have solid quality), but then I thought, "Wait, NiteCore!, the same guys who make the excellent headlamps. Nevermind, these should be great!"
Btw, I looked at the 20k one as well, but I decided on two 10k ones, they are actually lighter as a pair, and you have some redundancy in case one fails, you at least have the second one. Not that I expect them to fail.

  38. @lesmuise2855 on January 2, 2025 at 7:01 pm

So they did a new version but did not come to the idea to include a simple LED light. That really makes me angry 😤

  39. @darylcheshire1618 on January 2, 2025 at 7:02 pm

Why is it not 10Ah instead of 10KmAh. Is this marketing selling big numbers.

  40. @lakorai2 on January 2, 2025 at 7:03 pm

Too bad they didn’t add 25w 45w etc PPS and PD charging. I would have preferred dual USB-C ports instead of USB-A.

  41. @ricoviii1 on January 2, 2025 at 7:04 pm

    Not Anker!!!

  42. @Steve-Goff on January 2, 2025 at 7:05 pm

Does it charge by the usb-c port? If so, you technically lose that port for output use while the device is charging only leaving you the usb-a to actually use

  43. @monkeymox2544 on January 2, 2025 at 7:07 pm

Here’s a weird thing… the NB20000 weighs 324.5g, according to several websites, whereas the NB10000 weighs 150g. So if you need more juice, it is slightly more expensive, but the more lightweight option is to carry x2 NB10000s. Seems a bit odd 😆

  44. @zachs13 on January 2, 2025 at 7:10 pm

Curious how it compares to the Carbo version. I am particularly interested in the 20k MaH version. I’m between the Anker 5 series and the Carbo, which is a couple ounces lighter but more than double the price. Leaning Anker just because of their reputation, and I’ve heard another reviewer that had issues with Nitecore. But that 2 ounces is a lot..

  45. @StealthCampingUK on January 2, 2025 at 7:13 pm

Fifteen minutes of saying and repeating the same thing. Bravo!

  46. @frosty0419 on January 2, 2025 at 7:14 pm

Just got mine at a show. Thanks for the button update. As usual I didn’t read the directions. 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s everything you say it is!

  47. @696969bold on January 2, 2025 at 7:17 pm

Anyone else finding the case gets pretty warm near the ports?

  48. @johnnywong1018 on January 2, 2025 at 7:18 pm

Not worth upgrading . Pretty much the same as the 1st Generation . they should have or try to make it more power by making it lighter shell and more space for the battery

  49. @ronaldcobbley9668 on January 2, 2025 at 7:18 pm

Keep the new generation like the the first a very good product

  50. @amalielaursen1280 on January 2, 2025 at 7:19 pm

Its not enough to make me switch to the New one. But I will still be a fan of the nitecore powerbank 🙂
