A $90 ereader to replace idle scrolling

A $90 ereader to replace idle scrolling

If $300 for a Boox Palma or $200++ for a Hisense seem too much for distraction-free reading, maybe this $90 ereader is for you. This Moaan Inkpalm 5 Mini review also covers using Kindle and Libby, and apps like KOReader β€” to show you can meet your reading and productivity goals with an e-ink screen that actually fits in your pocket.

β–¬β–¬β–¬ Extra InkPalm tips β–¬β–¬β–¬
Note that I have an InkPalm MINI/32GB. There is also an InkPalm PRO, which has 64GB storage, but is the same specs otherwise. The InkPalm PLUS (orange back), on the other hand, is newer, bigger and has more RAM, and is more expensive.

β–Ί My device came already in English, and with Kindle and Amazon App Store already installed. All I had to do was log into the Amazon App Store app, no rooting or command line required. This might vary depending on vendor.

β–Ί To easily install Unlauncher, KOReader, EInkBro, Markor: Download the F-droid .apk at https://f-droid.org and put the apk file in your Inkpalm. Then simply open the apk file on the Inkpalm to install it*. You can then use the F-droid app store to browse and install the other apps.

(*The same process, to download the apk and then open on-device, can be followed to install any apps not on F-droid.)

β–Ί If you’re looking for an ebook font that’s better than the default options, my favorite free one is Literata: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Literata

β–Ί I did disable a bunch of unused stock apps and services on the Inkpalm, but this is entirely at your preference (and risk).
I used the list/guide here on GitHub (section 5): https://github.com/philips/inkpalm-5-adb-english and the list on this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/InkPalm5/comments/16umuv8/inkpalm_5_apps/

They should launch e-reader phones (doesn’t need to be smartphone) but has the basic functionality of a phone like calling and text messaging, simcard slots needed.

  20. @utubepunk on December 31, 2024 at 6:40 pm

    This is now $128. 😭

When using the Kindle app can you tap to change pages like you would on a kindle or when you pressed the volume buttons to not have the animation between pages?
I noticed you were swiping so the animation swiped the pages.

  27. @taylormanning2709 on December 31, 2024 at 6:43 pm

A follow-up explaining why it’s no longer on Amazon would be nice

  28. @minimini4792 on December 31, 2024 at 6:44 pm

  32. @MannyRataul on December 31, 2024 at 6:52 pm

Get yourself a library card (for free) and go get any book you can possibly want (for free).

  33. @jonathandawson3091 on December 31, 2024 at 6:54 pm

It’s fine except for the fact that the battery life is so low.

  34. @jbol2454 on December 31, 2024 at 6:56 pm

  37. @robert.sec2 on December 31, 2024 at 7:00 pm

Wish I had seen this 6 months ago– it’s not available for anything less than $120 on aliexpress now

i think android 8 is way too outdated. the plus has android 11, which even still is outdated.

  45. @starrlight9063 on December 31, 2024 at 7:09 pm

This is awesome. If I saw this first I would have gotten this. I seen the "purse kindle" which is a small mp3 on amazon, some people are getting, I think that’s a lil too small. I’m just using an older android phone.

  46. @Aleksandar_Tomasevic on December 31, 2024 at 7:12 pm

BROOO, Her kindle paperwhite say Yugoslavio on it, :3

  47. @Drown-n1e on December 31, 2024 at 7:13 pm

This won’t fix your self control issue, this is only an accessibility option. you have to be deliberate with your time if you want to stop doom scrolling.

  48. @romido on December 31, 2024 at 7:14 pm

Hey, I just bought one because of your video! Hoe did you set it up so the apps show in lost form and not icons? 😊

  49. @JJ-hb9in on December 31, 2024 at 7:14 pm

Got a bigme HiBreak and it changed my life! Now reading and Anki are close at hand but infinite scrolling doesn’t catch my interest without the LCD
