You NEED a CGM! (Who needs a Continuous Glucose Monitor)

You NEED a CGM! (Who needs a Continuous Glucose Monitor)

A CGM (continuous glucose monitor) can quickly tell you which foods spike your glucose levels and which foods don’t. It’s worth down-grading your cable-package to get one!

—Conditions that benefit from a CGM—
Diabetes (all)
Prediabetes
Hypoglycemia
Metabolic Syndrome
Gestational Diabetes
Hypertension
High Triglycerides
Overweight/Obese/Severely Obese
PCOS
others

—What to say if your doctor refuses to order it for you—
“Doctor, I hear what you saying. Will you document in my Permanent Medical Record that I have risk factors for diabetes and heart disease and I am trying to improve my diet, and I think a CGM will help me do that. And, that you refused this request to help me improve my health. And, I’d like to get a copy of my record when you have finished this documentation. Thank you.”
This should work wonders…

This is just another method to ensure patients will become completely shrouded, engulfed, and obsessed with minute details such as minute to minute feedback on their blood sugar levels. Why not just focus on eating healthy and staying active THE OVERALL PICTURE instead of staring at a graph all day showing you blood glucose levels. BIG PICTURE PEOPLE

  2. @barbdennis7979 on October 10, 2025 at 1:28 am

❤we should be able to get them without a MD or doctor visit! ❤
Same with Ivermectin and other meds that have shown excellent results. ❤

Love how insurance companies reward healthy people but if your going down the wrong path they just charge you more and deny anything that can help you better understand your health and change bad habits. Then their little classes for discounts advise you to eat pure shite to lower your blood glucose lmao. What a grift

I have been using the Lingo sensor that does not require a prescription and love it. I pay around $92.00 a month and find it worth the cost. 😊

    Hi Doctor,
Very grateful for you for the time and the effort you are giving people for free. If my dexcom is usually inconsistent with the manual finger stick reading which is always lower than the dexcom which one I should follow more?
    Thank you

If the insurance is paying you have requirements to be approved. Daily Insulin injections OR you had 2 hypoglycemic events in past 6 months.

I am pre- diabetic and have NAFLD do you think I need one?

  18. @Truth3473-k2b on October 10, 2025 at 1:45 am

I am not over weight but I’m pre diabetes. I just found out that I am prediabetes and my Drs. Nurse said I don’t qualify to get cgm. My daughter fussed . I was just thinking I am going to be sticking myself a good bit so I can see what affects my blood sugar
My aunt died in a nursing home with her legs cut off.

Doctor barry, I avoid sugar, ninety percent of the time. But on the occasion where I have a dessert, which contains considerable sugar, I’ll practically pass out pure exhaustion. Can’t hold my eyes open. What does this mean I am diabetic?Or pre diabetic?

Another painful thing when using a CGM – especially if you use the Stelo Biosensor – is you treat it a bit like putting a real Epi-Pen applicator into your skin. You apply the biosensor applicator, press it on to your skin, and then, it acts like an auto-injector–you will hear a pop – that is the stick thing going into the skin, and then you remove the applicator, and the sensor is stuck in place.

After pairing the sensor with my smartphone using Stelo warmup, I got my first mg/dl reading – 114. That is a bit high. But I know a little bit about diabetes and prediabetes numbers. A fasting glucose thing should be 70-100. Non-fasting glucose should not be more than 140 or so mg/dl or no lower than 70 mg/dl. Now I got this 114 because I am not fasting. I am going to eat some baked chicken and see if my glucose rises. Only a little bit because it is chicken and it is keto-friendly. Not loaded with carbs. It might spike to 120 mg/dl and then go down.

I am sadly a prediabetic. I was 5.8 in my glucohemoglobin, and then, sadly, a 5.9. Once I get up to 6.5 or more – I AM DEAD! CONDEMNED TO BEING SENTENCED TO HAVING TYPE 2 DIABETES! And that is what I do not want! That is why I used a CGM like Stelo, Dr. ;( 🙁 🙁

  24. @HarleyRiderMC on October 10, 2025 at 1:53 am

I used a GCM for one day. It drove me crazy. Simply not for me. Been on carnivore now for one month. Blood glucose reduced significantly.

I just got one last week from my dietitian, I knew my numbers were high, but wow. I have ADHD and it’s so helpful in that area, one less thing to worry about and one less thing to do…

This WILL Definitely help you to LOWER your A1C.

  27. @palerider7924 on October 10, 2025 at 1:57 am

Isnt T2 caused by fat cells being full of fat? Insulin resistance?

  28. @matthewmahon8204 on October 10, 2025 at 1:58 am

It demonstrated to me that sweet fruits, mango, pineapple, grapes, prunes, spiked my sugar to 190+. Stress? I was driving early morning on a snowy New Hampshire highway to go skiing, wiper broke and my sugar skyrocketed.

  29. @ihazabukket on October 10, 2025 at 2:04 am

I’m a small town general surgeon and insulin resistance survivor. I have expanded my practice to include metabolic life coaching for those who are interested. A cgm is mandatory imo and one of my requirements along with fasting insulin and the other metabolic health measurements. It continues to amaze me the pushback my patients have received from their pcp and/or their insurance company about cgm indications. Or even more laughable the idea that it’s “taking away valuable resources from actual diabetics “ 🙄

Your videos are always SO good. ❤ I am turning 39 in a few days. I recently read Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means and Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz, and because I’m struggling undiagnosed with many of the indicators of increasing insulin resistance and inflammation, even with what I consider a relatively healthy diet and lifestyle, I am getting a CGM to uncover what the heck may be happening with my blood. I’m changing a lot of things, and this is one part of the whole discovery and recovery process. Thank you!!! ❤

  33. @c50grand2 on October 10, 2025 at 2:09 am

I would like to try an OTC CGM. I’m prediabetic. My recent bloodwork said my A1c is 6.0 and my Fasting Insulin increased from 3.8 to 4.6. My concern about using a CGM is that I’m very active guy. I’m worried that a CGM would become lose or become attached from my arm. Can I left weights while wearing a CGM? I work for FedEx and I’m always lifting heavy packages and constantly moving. Would a CGM survive my daily routine/activities?

  34. @orchidsrosesg_disone4431 on October 10, 2025 at 2:11 am

My functional medicine dr 👨‍⚕️ said I may have to get one of these . At my last visit last Thursday. Here in Canada you can buy it OTC but from the pharmacy section $120.00 . Like Shoppers Drug Mart.

  35. @robertmurphy9962 on October 10, 2025 at 2:11 am

Thanks Dr. Ken. From personal experience, using a CGM changed my life. You can see how stress, certain foods, the order you eat foods & exercise affects glucose, spikes and A1C. I changed my diet and habits then saw immediate results. Best thing I ever did & I feel much better.

  38. @MrKokspang on October 10, 2025 at 2:13 am

Im type 2 diabetic my HA1c is 11.9 even with insulin my blood sugar levels wont go under 200, ive done strict carnivore diet for a year now..

  39. @clay1883 on October 10, 2025 at 2:15 am

I agree. BUT who is going to pay for it? I can’t afford it and Medicare and supplemental have many restrictions/conditions before they will pay. Doctor’s and Health care people don’t seem to understand how it is in the real world. If I was indigent, they’d be paid for.

  40. @TimothyGinns-z8u on October 10, 2025 at 2:15 am

  41. @sunshine-nj9rg on October 10, 2025 at 2:17 am

I have asked my Dr several times for this device but have been denied. I am diabetic but it is controlled so I have been told no by two Drs in the practice that told me I dont need it. I am glad there is a device for people who can not a prescription like myself but I have to purchase it on my own. I don’t think that is fair since I pay for insurance but at this point I have no choice. I wish there was a Dr Ken in my area but these Drs are few and far between.

If you ever look back in 20 years, you will see how much our blood sugar has increased to be almost. I look back the same with blood sugar and you realize one thing it’s all about money yet again we’ve been monitoring my blood sugar for a while now it’s been close but I know when he says we want to start monitoring him more. I’m gonna tell him. No

  47. @tom51558 on October 10, 2025 at 2:21 am

Please note….I have reactive hypoglycemia caused by a pancreatic insulinoma tumor. That’s another reason for having a CGM.

  48. @mandyhaven4290 on October 10, 2025 at 2:21 am

I had low potassium readings several times since 2013 which makes no since because I used to eat tons of fruit and vegetables . Went low carb I felt a bit better and my potassium improved a little .

after covid I passed out I then found out I have hypoglycemia. Looked it up found out it causes low potassium.

    Went carnivore no more hypoglycemia.

Now if I eat carbs I try to wear cgm to keep myself from having hypoglycemia.

Only problem with these over the counter one is there is no alarm for when you have hypoglycemia in your sleep
