Those helmets look amazing but man, that’s pricy for a safety accessory.
I have Spokey Dokes, that I will be putting on when I ride with my grandniece. She is six, has just learned to ride without training wheels, and I hope these make her laugh. Of course, I saved all the pink colored beads ones for her bike.
I watched your video yesterday. I liked your bike so much I started looking for my own vintage Bianchi. I found one yesterday and picked it up about an hour ago, looking forward to many rides.
Bianchi is a quality bike. An issue with me is wearing black, so I never do, except for shorts. Four "essential" items to ride with are helmet, gloves, mirror, and lights. Bells are helpful, especially on trails. You’re right about people being offended. Too bad; it’s better to be safe. Rear racks are also great, with a rack bag that has hidden pannier zipped in the side pockets.
Im a white guy but I just realized this is the first non-white non-male i’ve seen on biketube. Thank you for being here. Very good video.
What? No gumwall tires to match your brown handlebars and (brownish?) seat? Maybe when you need to replace your existing ones!
4:20 Re: people being offended at bells, I’ve discovered that it’s because many bike bells are so loud and abrupt that people get jumpscared. For this reason, I don’t like the ‘ding’ type bells with a swing-back hammer because you can’t consistently control how hard they hit.
Instead, I prefer the type that go briiriiriing with a little lever you push (mine is made by Bontrager/Electra) because it’s easy to modulate the loudness and duration of the bell.
love the bike and your content, That bike reminds me of my old Schwinn Centennial from back in the 1980’s nearly the same components. There is something special about the smoothness and looks of older styles.
I recommend safety tabs if you have fenders. Without them, debris can get stuck in between your tire and fender and lock the wheel up. It’s rare but if it does happen it could throw you over the handlebars
My "brings me joy" bike accessory is a Portland Design Work Sparrow water bottle cage. I just love having a little bird holding my water bottle for me. 🙂
I feel so validated. I’m getting my first bike tomorrow. I have no experience with cycling as an adult, but intend to be an all-weather rider (For transportation purposes as the primary intent. Exercise is only a bonus for me). I need to *want* to ride my bike. I have a housemate who has been trying to get me into cycling. It’s always been a hard no for me until I learned about Dutch bikes. Now that I know I can wear regular clothes and can have a cute af bike, I’m into the idea! I just wasn’t willing to change what I wear (I wear long skirts unless wearing my work uniform). Aesthetics matter so much. If I’m going to do something, I want to do it in a way that gives me positive feels. I think I totally see your vision for your bike, btw. Love the vintage additions. I’m also going a vintage addition route. Beige bike, beige tires, brown leather seat and handles, beige metal front basket, and will try to go a wood or brown leather back trunk/ pannier route.
If you don’t use the bell, they are pissed if you pass them… having a MIK rack is awesome, I like using a basket but not all the time…
Small handlebar mirror is great addition.
Ngl, a little hard to take advice from someone who only recently started wearing a helmet. And only because it looks nice. Yikes.
love it. just bought a rear rack and tpu bag for my bianchi pista and have been riding so much more to stay in shape and feels great. wish people wouldn’t get so offended just for passing on a trail. also u r sexi and so is ur setup 😊 🚲
Finally a channel that understands bike aesthetics!!
Love your bike! I am just getting started with my new commuter bike and your recommendations were very helpful.
You have a very cute helmet 🙂
When it’s Christmas time I put LED Christmas lights on. I also cover my panniers with pins like my cowboy kitty or “Science Is Real”. They make me happy
Hey there ❤️ how did you connect the bracket arms on the rear rack. Where can I get those adapters. I too was hesitant on putting a rear rack on my bike but I gave in and got a temporary rack that connects to the seat post. It does the job for now but I would like to replace it with one similar to yours. I have a vintage as well. Trek 1200 1992 all original parts I just changed tubes and tires but the owner barely used it so it looks and rides great❤️ I almost got a Bianchi that was a bit modern but I wanted something vintage with down levers. Hope you see this and respond.
thats a cool looking cell phone holder you got!
Best helmet is the one you wear
You should look into getting a new saddle, maybe a nice Brooks B17 to match your bartape
that bike is sooo pretty!
Best statement in your video was that it doesn’t need to serve a function if it brings you joy. If not for the joy of riding then why?
bike gloves will be helpful in case of a low-speed fall, but if you fall from your bike at say anywhere around 20km/h like I did (thank you, tram tracks!!) and put your weight on one hand, I’m afraid you’re going to break a bone (mine was the left radius).
The best item of commuter gear I’ve bought so far is a pair of winter boots and Speedplay pedals
Thanks for this. You and your bike are definitely too cool for school.
Beautiful classic bike – you have great taste!

I agreed The bike rack is a big plus.. fenders I’m still debating on.
Nice practical bike! I got a Decathlon Riverside 100 bike! First purchase will be a rack and a set of good light! 👍🍻
All products mentioned in the description! What are your must have gear? Let me know in the comments, would love to hear from y’all!
my must have was a bike trailer , I use it to haul wood for my wood stove , Free heat
Commuting by bike isn’t necessarily faster than by car but as commuting by car you get say 30 minutes of boredom, on a bike you get 1 hour of joy ^_^
I love rock straps, I started using them recently on my motorbike. Superhelpful when riding two up with my girlfriend and she brings so much stuff that it can’t fit into the top case ^_^
Safety? They look good so check… Sigh
since the bike is for daily usual commuting, those handlebars are gonna give you back pain in just a little while if it isnt already
Your bike is very aesthetic 😌
It seems like youve got everything you want. If you’re looking to upgrade your rear rack in the future I would recommend the topeak mtx rear rack system, which attaches to your seat post and fastens to the rear triangle rack screw holes. It comes in silver! Although a matte silver. It has a clip in rail system with proprietary bags and a collapsible crate which is awesome! It’s especially useful for groceries and has an expandable handle and wheels so if you haul a lot of groceries you can remove the crate and roll it on the ground once you get to your home or destination.
It will still allow you to put any other brand bags also.
If anything I would add a handlebar bag or a top tube frame bag, to hold a mini pump or small tools, spare tube or patch kit and screws, tire levers, chain links, etc. what we you think is necessary.
Last, I noticed your brake hoods are mounted pretty high up on your drop bars! Usually they are more forward, so the bottom tips of the brake levers are within reach when you have your hands down in the drops. Your stem is also quite tall and has a short reach! I assume this gives you a more upright riding position and is more comfortable than and stretched out forward riding position. If it’s just about comfort that’s fine, but if the forward stretched out position on your bike gives you any pain or numbness, and makes you prefer riding in your hoods or the flat part or corners of your handle bars, or you just can’t reach out that far, that might mean your bike is possibly one size too big! If your bike was 2 sizes too big I think you would probably notice.
Again if it’s just about comfort and riding style preference, then there’s no problem! Happy riding!
Love the look of your retro bike.
being pretty with your bike way more important than being safe or confortable!!
Cateye front light in daylight mode,so I’m not T-boned at junctions by motorists. I always use gloves as I fall when wobbly walking as I’ve cerebral palsy. I’ve been cycling for sixty years, since I was six. The UK is not bicycling friendly.
The first additions to my bicycle after doing some long distance riding:
Lights, Mirror, Phone Holder.
Thanks for the video, helps a lot!
such an aesthetic bike.. i want one
how much did your bike setup cost? as in the frame, rack, fenders and everything else permanently attached to it
I built my bike in 2020 and most of the gear I’ve been using since then. Love Thousand gloves I have all pairs and the helmet in Rose Gold. While I did have the bell (same co), I upgraded to a Crane bell that was a bit louder. The Oopsmark lock holder also availabel via Etsy is dope, but caution, my lock has wiggled out and fallen off depending on the road conditions I commuted in SF/Oakland and now LA.
Please stop using the bell for pesedtrians, especially in places where pedestrians are allowed. An "excuse me" or "on you left" is a lot better. If you’re walking, with your thoughts and all of a sudden you hear a bell, you get scared imagining a cyclist barreling towards you. This causes the pedestrian to get flustered and not know where to go.
Very cool setup and lively and informative presentation style. Like the way you customized your bike, coordinating your gear so it’s aesthetically pleasing and functional. What size rok straps do you have? Been using bungees cords. Would like to try the straps. Must admit the drop handle bars seem to make it look like the cyclist knows what he or she is doing, but I am a hybrid bicyclist who prefers a more upright riding position. My cockpit is crazy busy. I always ride with my action camera mounted there, have an electronic remote controlled motion sensor/horn anti theft device, a small but pleasantly loud bell, a bike computer, headlight, left and right rear view mirrors and believe it or not an air horn attached to the head tube. Everything is color coordinated—navy blue and black are the dominant colors. Have a black rear rack, expandable panniers, a tail light, U-lock with cable, and some basic tools I carry in the top compartment of my “saddle bags.” Also have a detachable mud guard attached to the down tube. Oh yes, I always carry an electric bike pump. I use my mirrors, computer, and U-lock regularly and inflate my tires before leaving the house. Whew! The other stuff I rarely use but I like having all of it with me just in case. Bike is pretty heavy but I can keep up with other hybrid bike riders. Not into speed anyway. Just like having fun—like you. Really appreciated your approach to urban cycling. Thanks for sharing! One more thing I like how your rear wheel requires a special tool to remove the wheel and how you lock the front wheel and frame!
I am a all year round cyclist, and my biggest joy is having a vintages track bike. And people love my brooks saddle and brooks bare tape but no one notices the fuji vintages stem except me. Posable the fuji stem is my favourite thing on the bike but still love my vintages track bike.
Yes I ride fixed 90% of the time ^.^
Your place is nice and tidy
Any tips whether i should get a raincoat if its safe or not since it rains a ton where im from?
