My eight-year-old just showed me how to make an automation for my IPhone for when I plug it in and unplug it; so that it says funny saying in the process. ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ”Œ
Everything I just saw this video is way advanced and over my head. But eventually, Iโ€™ll get there by watching all these channels. ๐Ÿ˜‚
Good collaboration video. I now have to go back and watch the ones from all the other years too.๐Ÿ˜Š

  5. @justinward3218 on January 15, 2025 at 7:42 pm

Itโ€™s actually insane to me that anyone making smart home content would actually say โ€œAlexaโ€ in a video without censoring it

  6. @y.a.salimu5601 on January 15, 2025 at 7:42 pm

I want to share my smart home automation idea too. Iโ€™m still building it, but should be done soon.
Problem: I hate cleaning and my wife gloats about how she does all the cleaning
Solution: Make our smart home do more automated cleaning and disinfecting then me wife ever could
    Semi-Detailed automation explanation:
    ย
Install 36W UVC lights inside every bathroom and on the ceiling in the kitchen.ย
Install motion sensors and door open/close sensor + wifi outlets.
Create interruptible routines that start 30 seconds after bathroom door closes but only if motion not detected so that UVC light turns on for 15 min for 99% disinfection.
Basically every time someone uses a bathroom I want it to self disinfect. The kitchenโ€™s UVC light Iโ€™d just have run at 4AM everyday while everyone sleeps upstairs.

Hello community! New member from Brazil here! Happy to receive all this useful tips! Thanks!

  12. @TomsDIYShop on January 15, 2025 at 7:54 pm

What a cool idea with excellent execution! You’ve taken collaboration to a whole new level! I’ve finally finished evaluating all of the different HA solutions and have decided to make the move from ISY / Insteon to Home Assistant. I have a pretty extensive investment in Insteon switches, outlets, sensors, etc., so my goal is to continue using that gear as I grow / expand my automation capabilities!

Thanks for putting this out here, it was awesome! Maybe next year, I can share one of my favorite automations!

  13. @excancerpoik on January 15, 2025 at 7:55 pm

why would you need a motor to close the door you can just use one of those things that shut the door idk what they are called but you know the things over the door that makes sure it closes and cant be slammed

  14. @stevenll6279 on January 15, 2025 at 7:58 pm

Loved this video! Super inspiring! It’s fun to see all the youtubers i have seen when informing myself about smart homes and automations to be a kinda like a lil community i love it!

  15. @Alphasig336 on January 15, 2025 at 7:58 pm

Smart Home. Putting motion LED lights in every coat/shoe closet around the door. It lights up shoes under coats so you can see what is their. Though there isnโ€™t a smart connected as it isnโ€™t needed.

I have GAS valves on my outdoor kitchen valve to turn it in and close. It alerts if someone turns it one manually or through a command. It also shuts off 2 hrs after being turned on. It also shuts off at 8pm and Midnight though these were before I got the countdown working.

I have a Shelly on my light post that I can say blink light post if someone is looking for my house. It blinks for 5 minute and then returns to previous setting.

Something weird about 17:21 or before, is that really a 65" TV??? Standing just that distance from my 55" it would be as tall as my entire shirt, not just about half of it…. Don’t want to say he’s lying as I seriously doubt he is, but it’s just weird. It doesn’t look like he’s standing that far from it. Has to be some weird camera lens, dunno… but looks like my 42" would be at that distance…

"Obviously most people don’t sleep with their doors closed" um excuse me what kinda psychopath sleeps with their door open? All of mine are closed and locked (yes even the interior ones)

  22. @dakotashea3561 on January 15, 2025 at 8:04 pm

Only thing that blows; if you lose wifi, most of these dont work

  23. @jordanc3233 on January 15, 2025 at 8:05 pm

Thatโ€™s genius. Close your doors when a fire is detected to make it easier to get out.

    Is that dude saying "artimation"?!

  28. @audas on January 15, 2025 at 8:13 pm

My first automation will be to have a temperature sensor inside my crock pot which is making yogurt – if the temperture goes above 42 C then it turns off the crock pot, if it goes below 38 C – turns it on. This way I can make 3 litres of yogurt instead of 1 in my little yogurt maker.

Late to this video but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the collaboration! Thanks for bringing all these folks together!

  30. @JosephLittich on January 15, 2025 at 8:14 pm

I’m a little late seeing this video, it just now made it into my stream. Most of these guest are already in my stream. I think the only one that was missed was the handydad guy. Cheers for the share! I hope this continues to be a tradition.

I have a Tapo S200B Button, so when my mom press it once, it rings a bell in my room, that she needs me, Since I live on 1st floor and she is on Ground floor it makes so easy for her to call me whenever she wants, its a small battery operated button which she can carry everywhere.
When she double press it, it starts her favourite prayer playlist on her TV and it turns off after the video ends.

This was good. I was going to skip the Apple people but their ideas work without that stuff. Outtakes were good too.

  36. @nstg8 on January 15, 2025 at 8:23 pm

My favorite home automation is this: I eat dinner (and sometimes lunch) in the family room and that almost always includes watching tv. The automation is as follows: when you turn off the tv (logitech harmony) it turns on the moen smart faucet in the kitchen to the hottest setting so that by the time I get to the sink I can rinse off my dishes to put them in the dishwasher. It then will turn off the lights in the family room (if they were on which is conditional from a light sensor) 5 minutes later.

  37. @TristanFootloose on January 15, 2025 at 8:24 pm

Another great video, I got some great ideas for my morning routines, BTW I have few automations that you may like

    1) Keep the Switches on – I have few bulb outlets connected to the smart bulbs and my light automations go bananas every time my wife or daughter turns off the switches, I created an automation which will be triggered when the switches as turned off and it turns the switches back on, sends an announcement using the smart speaker of the room not to turn off the switches and turns of the lights after 15 seconds ( 15 seconds delay to ensure that the bulbs are connected to Wi-Fi)

    2) in-store shopping reminders using HA zones, this will send a reminder to other person( if i am at store notify my wife and vice versa) to update the shopping list

    3) turn off the lights and motion sensors in my home theater (Based on Denon AVR status) and turn lights and motion sensor on when the HT is turned off

Wishing you and your family Merry Christmas and a happy and successful 2023, hoping to see more products and videos from your side

If someone could figure out not only to run YouTube on my Sony android TV, but to play a specific video, it would be awesome

  39. @chris-kr7gf on January 15, 2025 at 8:26 pm

    backlight on TV? UGH NOOOOOO

  40. @traskth on January 15, 2025 at 8:26 pm

Hey Lewis, im personally wanting to replicate your morning announcment idea, with my own few twists, now that i have a speaker in my home. I was wondering what your code is for the annoucement itself, so i have a starting point.

  47. @anonymousgirl5150 on January 15, 2025 at 8:36 pm

I have a question, once you told me that for security/privacy I may create a vlan or use my smart home as local network, which I get it, but what I really want to knowz, if there is a way to use "Alexa" or building a voice helper similar to Alexa, that won’t spy on my lifestyle or network or whatever ๐Ÿ˜‚โค thanks

  48. @FutzyM3 on January 15, 2025 at 8:37 pm

    A 65" TV ISN’T large? whoa… ๐Ÿ˜€

  49. @Gk2003m on January 15, 2025 at 8:37 pm

1:55: my front door automation: a) if door (contact sensor) open, lock remains unlocked. b) if door closed, lock locks. c) if lock unlocked but door closed for more than three minutes, lock locks. This spares me ever closing the door while the lock is locked, and ensures that if someone unlocks the door but for some reason does not open it the door is quickly re-secured.
